FiinRatings Assesses Verdant Energy’s Green Finance Framework as “Aligned” with the ICMA’s Green Bond Principles (2025)

Headquartered in Singapore and backed by A.P. Moller Capital, Verdant Energy is a renewable energy developer targeting more than 1.1 GW of renewable energy capacity across Southeast Asia by 2029. In Vietnam, the Company focuses on providing renewable energy solutions to the manufacturing and industrial sectors, supporting the transition to cleaner energy across export supply chains.
A notable feature of the Green Finance Framework is that it has been established at the holding company level and applies to financing transactions of subsidiaries across the Group. Under this Framework, Verdant Vietnam Bravo Company Limited and Verdant Vietnam Crystal Company Limited have both issued green bonds in Vietnam. This approach is consistent with international market practice, promoting consistency in governance, use of proceeds, and reporting.
According to FiinRatings' assessment, Verdant Energy's Green Finance Framework is “Aligned” with the ICMA Green Bond Principles (2025). One of the key strengths of the Framework is that its eligible project categories are directly linked to the Company's core business activities in the development, construction, and operation of renewable energy projects.
The Framework includes three main eligible project categories: solar power, wind power, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). According to FiinRatings, these sectors are aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Goal 13 (Climate Action).
In addition, the Framework incorporates ESG screening mechanisms, climate risk assessments, and project review procedures overseen by the Green Finance Committee. This approach helps ensure consistency between the Company's green financing objectives, risk management practices, and sustainability strategy.
The adoption of an internationally aligned Green Finance Framework by a renewable energy developer operating across multiple Southeast Asian markets (including Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand...) reflects the growing standardization of sustainable finance practices. It also highlights the critical role of independent assessments in reducing information asymmetry, enhancing comparability, and strengthening market credibility for green finance instruments.
